STAATSBURGH STATE HISTORIC SITE

STAATSBURG, N.Y. (4/1/23) — Join the staff at Staatsburgh State Historic Site for some fun and free
outdoor programs for kids in a beautiful park setting along the Hudson River.
“Tree Exploration Walk.” Despite them being all around us, what do we really know about the trees in our
local environment? Kids can join Staatsburgh State Historic Site staff for a free, 45-minute guided
landscape walk exploring some of the different types of trees found on the grounds of Staatsburgh, along
the Hudson River. Staff will guide children ages 7-12 in exploring some of the benefits of various trees,
from feeding local animals to beautifying our environment.
The “Tree Exploration Walk” will be offered on Sunday, April 2 at 3:00 p.m. and Thursday, April 6, at 1:00
p.m. This program is free, but advanced registration is required at www.Bookeo.com/StaatsburghSHS.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

“Skull & Bones” is an interactive, nature-focused program for children ages 6 to 9, in which children
become detectives, examining the skulls of animals that live in this region. Participants will learn clues to
determine if each animal is predator or prey; an herbivore, a carnivore, or an omnivore. Families may
wish to enjoy the site grounds, the woodland trails, or a picnic by the Hudson River after the program.
“Skull & Bones,” is offered on Friday, April 7 at 1:00 p.m. The program is free. Children must be
accompanied by an adult. Registration is required: www.bookeo.com/StaatsburghSHS
“Shaping Staatsburgh: Explore the Language of Architecture,” leads kids ages 9-15 around the estate
grounds (Mills Memorial State Park) to examine the mansion and other estate buildings, while learning
about the language of architecture and why buildings look the way they do.
“Shaping Staatsburgh” will be offered on Saturday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m. The program is free. Children
must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required: www.Bookeo.com/StaatsburghSHS
People attending may also wish to enjoy a picnic along the river or a tour of Staatsburgh’s Gilded Age
mansion (a separate site admission applies for the mansion tour, but ages 12 and under are free: reserve
at www.Bookeo.com/StaatsburghSHS)
