RICHARD BARONE & ELVIS PERKINS @ THE TOWNE CRIER CAFE – FRI. JUNE 2ND
Showtime: 8:30 PM
Bongos frontman Richard Barone and folk iconoclast Elvis Perkins team up for an evening of song-trading, storytelling and troubadouring. Barone will draw on songs from his historical new album Sorrows & Promises: Greenwich Village in the 1960s, his solo and Bongos catalogs; and Perkins from his recent I Aubade album and other titles from his uniquely personal repertoire. Both artists will collaborate and interact in this freewheeling song session.
RICHARD BARONE is an acclaimed recording artist, performer, producer, and author. Since pioneering the indie rock scene in Hoboken, NJ as frontman for The Bongos, Barone has produced countless studio recordings and worked with artists in every musical genre. ELVIS PERKINS has created a textural, acoustic-based sound that is simultaneously gentle and intense, drawing on traditional folk, gospel, and cinematic influences. He has released three full-length collections of literate, impressionistic songs, two under his own name (‘Ash Wednesday‘ ’07 XL Recordings & ‘I Aubade’, ’15 MIR) and one under the band name ‘Elvis Perkins in Dearland’ (’09 XL Recordings). The band, with whom he has toured extensively, also released the six-track ‘Doomsday EP’ in 2009 (XL). In the past two years Perkins has made two film scores: “I am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House” (Netflix Original, ’16) and “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” (A24 ’17). A soundtrack album for the latter was released in March 2017.
